KXIP fielding coach Jonty Rhodes is mighty impressed by the pair. Rhodes points out that the presence of layers of this calibre is what makes India such a great side across formats. He goes on add that Mayank has proved to be more than a Test player and sooner or later will get a break into the national side.

It is incredible and is an indication of the strength of Indian cricket, which is detrimental also sometimes for some young cricketers. Think of Rohit Sharma, how long he took to break into the Indian team. Guys like Mayank have shown he is more than just a Test player,” Rhodes told ANI.

Talking about his opening partner, Rahul, the former South Africa international lauded his consistency at the top of the order. Rahul’s ability to adapt to the different formats also amazed him and he feels that is what makes the Karnataka opener succesful across formats more than anything.

But KL has just been so consistent. He is multi-dimensional, and that is important because as a cricketer you need to adapt to every scenario. The players who are able to adapt are the ones who are successful,” Rhodes further added.

KXIP will take on SRH in a do and die contest for both sides in today’s evening matchup. With a win in this game, Rahul and co will enter the top four for the first time this season.
