IPL 2020 MI vs DC: Half-centuries from Suryakumar, De Kock chase-down 163 run target of DC; MI move to the top of the table
A team performance from Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated league leaders Delhi Capitals (DC) by 5 wickets with two balls to spare. The top table clash in the Indian Premier League (IPL) went in favor of MI who move to the top of the IPL 2020 points table with 10 points.
Winning the toss DC skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to bat first. Out of form Shikhar Dhawan proved his mettle in a slow wicket of Abu Dhabi with a 69 runs innings. DC posted a target of 162/4 in 20 overs with Dhawan and Iyer top-scoring for the team. Mumbai Indians bowlers helped restrict an explosive lineup of DC although only Trent Boult and Krunal Pandya were the ones among wickets.
Chasing 163 runs, MI lost Rohit Sharma early in the fifth over with Axar Patel giving the side the important wicket. However, Quinton De Kock and Suryakumar Yadav had their eyes on the target and made the important 53 runs each for the side. De Kock got out in the 10th over to Ravichandran Ashwin after making 53 in 36 balls. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan then led the run-chase and made a 53 run partnership.
Kagiso Rabada took the wicket of Yadav in the 15th over but the damage was already done. Kishan made a supportive role and scored 28 runs in 15 balls. Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard finished the game in the final over with two balls to spare. Hardik Pandya got out for a rare duck in two balls in the tournament.
Shikhar Dhawan score first fifty of IPL 2020
DC were forced to make a change with Rishabh Pant’s injury and Alex Carey taking the place of the wicketkeeper batman. Ajinkya Rahane also played his first game for DC in place of Shimron Hetmayer. Batting first DC’s start was not good with Prithvi Shaw getting out to Boult in the very first over of the game.
Ajinkya Rahane also could not make a mark in his first game of IPL 2020. Rahane got out LBW to Krunal Pandya after scoring 15 runs in 15 deliveries. However, out of touch in the tournament until now, Shikhar Dhawan impressed with his hardworking knock of 69 runs. He made his first fifty in the tournament and hit 6 boundaries and 1 six. Dhawan along with skipper Iyer made a partnership in the middle overs to help DC make 162/4 after 20 overs. Iyer made 42 from 33 balls.
Krunal Pandya picked two wickets for 26 runs in his four overs. Bumrah remained wicketless but conceded only 26 runs. Boult picked up one wicket for 36 runs in four overs.
MI have won five games out of seven and move to top of IPL points table with 10 points. DC lost their second game of IPL 2020 and are equal with MI in terms of points. However MI with a better net run rate overtake DC to move to top position.
