Kings XI Punjab leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi impressed everyone with his performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The young leg-spinner from Rajasthan hailed Kings XI Punjab head coach Anil Kumble who helped with the preparations before IPL 2020.

Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin were the pick of bowlers with 3 wickets apiece against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). A calm and confident performance against a mighty opponent with Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers in the batting lineup.

“He taught me to keep a calm mind and handle situations during the match with a cool head,” said Bishnoi when asked about Anil Kumble‘s coaching. “He also asked me to stick to my strength and not try too many things.

“We had a long camp before the IPL so the preparation was good. It’s more about mental preparations, skill levels are almost identical at this level,” said Bishnoi.

Ravi Bishnoi for India U-19

The India U-19 spinner said IPL is more about mental preparedness because the skillset of everyone is equal at this level.  Bishnoi picked up 3/32 in his four overs spell with Aaron Finch as his big fish.

KXIP were emphatic in their 97 run victory with KL Rahul spearheading a century. RCB lost all 10 wickets in just 17 overs and bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar the highest-scorer with 30 runs. RCB lost 7 of the 10 wickets to spinners in the KXIP vs RCB game.

“The one who is mentally stronger or more brave succeeds. My focus was on not giving away loose deliveries and allow them to attack me.

“We did not go out to bowl thinking we have a target over 200 to defend. Rather we thought we had to defend 180 and the intention was to get them out as soon as we can.”

Recently Bishnoi had earlier said that Anil Kumble is his idol and he was eager to master the googly under him.
