Royal Challengers Bangalore won the third game in a row in IPL 2020 after defeating Rajasthan Royals comfortably by 8 wickets.
Chasing 155 runs put by RR in the first innings, RCB eased on the target with skipper Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal half-centuries. RCB chased down the target with 5 balls to spare and move to the top of the IPL 2020 points table with 6 points.
Devdutt Padikkal set the tone upfront for the RCB. Aaron Finch started well but lost his wicket to Jofra Archer in the third over. Virat Kohli had a 99-run partnership with Padikkal for the third wicket for RCB. Kohli also achieved 5500 runs in the Indian Premier League and made a match-winning 72 runs off 53 balls. This is the first big score for Kohli in IPL 2020 after a poor start in the opening three games.
Young sensation Padikkal brought up his third half-century in four games for RCB in IPL 2020. He scored 63 off 45 deliveries.
RR could not ask any difficult questions for RCB as Kohli along with De Villiers completed the chase with 5 balls to spare.
Chahal gets the Purple cap with another significant bowling performance for RCB
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals skipper Steven Smith won the toss and opted to bat first. RR could only manage to post 154 runs on the board. Rajasthan Royals started in a brilliant fashion with Jos Buttler and Steven Smith opening the innings. But the start did not last for long, as both the openers departed in quick succession. RR was reduced to 31/3 within the powerplay after 27/0 in two overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal stood out to be the difference in RCB bowling after picking up 3 crucial wickets of Samson, Uthappa, and Lomror. Chahal took 3 wickets for 24 runs in four overs and bagged the Purple cap with 8 wickets in IPL 2020. Washington Sundar bowled an economical four overs for 20 runs but was wicketless.
RR star all-rounder Rahul Tewatia finished the RR innings by hitting 3 sixes in the death overs. Mahipal Lomror was the top scorer for RR with 47 runs in 39 balls. RR managed a par score of 154/6 in 20 overs.
