Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor praised Rajasthan Royals youngster Sanju Samson after his brilliant knock against Kings XI Punjab. Samson played a match-winning knock of 85 runs off just 42 deliveries in a successful run-chase in match 9 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Following this game, Shashi Tharoor appreciated the efforts of Rajasthan Royals with applauds for Samson. He wrote how Samson could be the next MS Dhoni, on which former India cricketer and current BJP MP Gautam Gambhir shared a different opinion.
Tharoor wrote: “What an absolutely incredible win for @rajasthanroyals! I’ve known @iamSanjuSamson for a decade & told him when he was 14 that he would one day be the next MS Dhoni. Well, that day is here. After his two amazing innings in this IPL you know a world class player has arrived.”
While Tharoor tried drawing similarities between Samson and Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir took no time in drawing a parallel observation. The left-hander took to the micro-blogging site to claim that Sanju Samson doesn’t need to be next anyone.
“Sanju Samson doesn’t need to be next anyone. He will be ‘the’ Sanju Samson of Indian Cricket,” Gambhir replied.
Unbelievable run-chase from RR batsmen
The cricket fans got to witness incredible gameplay from the Rajasthan Royals players during their run-chase of 224 runs against KXIP last night. Along with Samson, the skipper Steve Smith and all-rounder Rahul Tewatia also played exceptionally well.
Tewatia emerged as the unsung hero of the match in the end. At one stage where he was struggling to even connect the ball, he went on to smash 30 runs in a single over off Sheldon Cottrell. With two sixes from Jofra Archer in the penultimate over, RR clinched the game by four wickets with three remaining deliveries.
