IPL 2020 : “Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket was a special feeling,” Shahbaz Ahmed on maiden IPL wicket
Shahbaz Ahmed
While Royal Challengers Bangalore lost the crucial game against Delhi Capitals last night, it was a memorable outing for RCB allrounder Shahbaz Ahmed. Shahbaz picked up his maiden IPL wicket in his second game as DC crushed RCB by 6 wickets to seal the second spot on the points table. The Bengal allrounder was impressive as he picked up 2 wickets conceding only 26 runs.
In-form Shikhar Dhawan became Shahbaz’s maiden IPL picking and the 25-year-old is over the moon having scalped such a prized wicket. Shahbaz hails his sides’ intensity to win even in the direst situations as a big positive for the side. RCB qualified for the playoffs despite loss owing to their better net run rate.
“Today’s match was crucial for us and it’s good that we had a better run-rate so we have qualified despite the loss. The intensity to win the game is one of the positive for us,” Shahbaz said at the post-match press conference.
“The practice camp started before IPL has helped me. And the first wicket in IPL that too of Shikhar Dhawan is a special feeling,” he added.
We fell 15 runs short in the first innings
With the win, DC sealed the second spot on the points table and have earned themselves a second shot at the final. Chasing a modest 153, the Capitals went home comfortably riding on half-centuries from Dhawan and under fire Ajinkya Rahane.
Shahbaz reckons the toss was crucial and the dew later in the match snatched the game away from them. The Bengal allrounder opines that they fell 15 runs short in the first innings and it came around to bite them as the dew came in.
“Wicket was good to bat and eventually became better in the second innings because of dew. We had a discussion, we were actually 15 runs short as the wicket was slow in the first innings,” said Shahbaz.
