The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a tournament of opportunity for young players to make their name in international cricket. Two youngsters from Punjab, Shubman Gill, and Abhishek Sharma are playing in IPL 2020 with KKR and SRH respectively. Both the players are good friends and play together for Punjab in first-class cricket.

Gill and Sharma faced each other in yesterday’s game of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) versus Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR). The two players had bet on who would dominate the other if they faced each other in the tournament. Gill came out as the better of the duo after smashing Sharma for 11 runs in his over.

Incidently, Abhishek Sharma and Shubhman Gill trained together under Yuvraj Singh in Mohali before the start of the tournament.

During the 17th over Sharma came to bowl to Shubman Gill. The very first ball of the allrounder, Gill smashed a six over the bowler’s head. 11 runs were conceded in the over with Gill scoring 9 runs.

When asked about the friendly banter Shubhman said, “Abhishek and I had been practicing together for the last two months and we had placed a bet then on who would dominate the other during the match.”

“During practice matches, he had dismissed me 2-3 times as well. I didn’t think he would come to bowl during Saturday’s match, but when he did, I had it in my mind that I need to hit at least one sixer of his over,” he added.

Gill led KKR to their first victory in IPL 2020 after playing a match-winning knock of 70 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match for his performance.
