The Indian Premier League (IPL) is in the final phases and is yet to give its first qualifier in the tournament so far. Match no. 47 of Dream11 IPL 2020 witnessed another upset as league toppers Delhi Capitals (DC) were defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)(SRH) who are in the bottom third place.

Wriddhiman Saha and Rashid Khan were the star players for SRH who prevented DC to qualify in the IPL playoffs once again. Delhi Capitals could not do enough to win the match and lost by a massive scoreline of 88 runs.

SRH were put in to bat first by DC who won the toss. SRH decided to give chance to Wriddhiman Saha and Shahbaz Nadeem in their side. Saha played as the wicketkeeper-batsman in place of Jonny Bairstow, while Khaleel Ahmed and Priyam Garg were rested.

David Warner playing on his 34th birthday, played a fine knock of 66 runs from 34 balls. He also became the first player in IPL 2020 to hit a half-century within the powerplay in just 25 deliveries. Wriddhiman Saha playing his second game of the season, played a fine 87 run knock in 45 balls with 12 fours and two sixes. The duo added 107 runs to the first wicket partnership and added 77 runs in the powerplay- the best so far in IPL 2020.

Saha was dismissed by Nortje in the 15th over and Warner by Ashwin in the 10th over. Manish Pandey helped SRH finish the innings at 219/2 after 20 overs. Purple cap holder Kagiso Rabada’s 25 match streak of picking at least one wicket in every match came to an end as he remained wicketless and he went for 54 runs.

DC struggle to keep up with the run-chase

Delhi Capitals batsmen did not look good while chasing 220 runs. In form batsman, Shikhar Dhawan went for a golden duck on the third ball Sandeep Sharma. Ajinkya Rahane was then joined by Marcus Stoinis on the crease who was promoted to number three. However, Stoinis got out in the next over for just 5 runs.

Shimron Hetmayer and Rahane then played some good shots in the powerplay and took the score to 54/2 in 6 overs. Later Rashid Khan was brought into action by Warner who bowled his best bowling performance in IPL history. His figures read 4-0-7-3 picking Ajinkya Rahane, Hetmayer, and Axar Patel’s wicket. Rishabh Pant tried to keep the scorecard ticking with his 36 run innings but no other DC batsman could partner him as DC were all out for 132/10 in 19 overs.

Sandeep Singh and T Natarajan took two wickets each while Nadeem, Vijay Shankar and Holder took one each.

DC are still to qualify in the playoffs even though gaining 7 wins in 12 matches in IPL 2020. SRH on the other hand are with 5 wins and 7 losses in the tournament.
