Wicket-Keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran became the fastest player to reach the 50 run mark in the ongoing Indian Premier League. He took 17 balls to hit his maiden IPL fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad bettering Sanju Samson’s record of 19 balls against Chennai Super Kings.
Pooran’s 17-ball 50 is second-fastest by a KXIP batsman behind KL Rahul’s record 14-ball effort against Delhi Capitals in 2018.
KL Rahul is followed by Yusuf Pathan (15-ball 50 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014), Sunil Narine (15-ball 50 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017) and Suresh Raina (16-ball 50 vs Kings XI Punjab in 2014) in the overall chart of fastest 50s by batsmen in the league.
Pooran played a wonderful knock of 77 runs off 37 balls that included 5 fours and 7 humungous sixes. He also hit 28 runs off Abdul Samad’s over which included 4 sixes and a four.

Later, KXIP failed to chase down the 202 runs target set by SRH on the back of a mammoth 160-run opening partnership between Jonny Bairstow (97) and David Warner (52). With this loss, KXIP’s chances (of making it to the playoffs) are looking extremely difficult.
