It has been a season to forget for three times champions Chennai Super Kings, as they have been knocked out of the playoff race by arch-rivals Mumbai Indians. Put to bat first, CSK were off to a disastrous start losing 4 wickets in just 2.5 overs. And before struggling their way to the 114 they managed, both the sides made quite some records, ones that will haunt CSK for the rest of the tournament. So let’s take a look at them.

4 – 3 – This was CSK’s score 3 overs into their innings. Only once before in the 13-year history of the league, a side has lost 4 four wickets for fewer runs. It was Kochi Tuskers Kerala back in 2011 when they lost four wickets for only 2 runs against Deccan Chargers. CSK’ previous lowest score at four-down was 13 which was also against MI back in 2013.
3 – It is the total runs scored by CSK’s top four. This becomes the lowest in the cash-rich league’s history beating Kochi Tuskers. Their top four had scored 4 runs against Deccan Chargers in 2011.
5 – This is the number of wickets CSK lost in the powerplay last night, a new low for the three-time champions. Their previous low was 4 wickets in the powerplay, a feat they have managed quite times including twice in the previous season. Only sides to lose more wickets in the first six overs are Kochi Tuskers and RCB. The latter once lost 7 wickets in a reduced 5 over per side game.
3 -This is the number of time MI have managed to scalp 5 wickets in the powerplay. The first two time against Delhi Daredevils back in 2017. MI also has a record of taking four wickets in the powerplay twice before against CSK.
10 – This is the number of powerplay wickets Trent Boult has in IPL 2020. His three wickets in the first six overs against CSK last night took him as many wickets adrift any other bowler in the list.
1 – It was the first time Jasprit Bumrah ever struck twice in an over in the powerplay in the IPL. He has had struck twice in an over quite a times before, 13 to be exact. But it was the first time he did the feat in the first six overs.
3 – It is this number of times CSK’s top six batsmen were dismissed for single-digit scores in the IPL. Interestingly, the last two instances were also against MI, once at the Wankhede in 2013 and the other time at Chepauk in last season.
