IPL 2020 : “The set batsman has to finish off the game, we have to correct that,” admits KL Rahul

It was a sight for sore eyes of Kings XI Punjab fans as they comfortably overcame table-toppers DC by 5 wickets. What must have been more relieving for them was that the KXIP middle order stepped up for the first time as Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell put up an explosive 59 run stand to set up the win.
This was also KXIP’s most comfortable win this season and skipper KL Rahul more than relived. Having lost so many close games and won a couple, Rahul was glad to break the streak of last over tussles.
“My heart keeps reaching new limits every game but yeah it is nice to finish it in the 19th over for once. I did wonder, I won’t lie, especially when you are playing with six batsmen and an all-rounder,” Rahul said at the post-match presentation.
Side wants one of top 4 to close off games
Rahul went on to add that to avoid any last moment scuffles, the top four must hang around and close off games. On many occasions, KXIP top order fired but they haven’t been close games leaving it for new batsmen. This has been a big reason for the early loses they have had.
“It is something every team talks about: the set batsman has to finish off the game. One of the top four does that. We have to correct that,” he added
With the middle order and death boling more or less settled now, KXIP are looking strong as they approach the business end of the league. Punjab are currently fifth on the table with 8 points from 10 games. And a couple of wins now will propel them into the top four. Given their last two wins have come against the top two, they will be confident to make the cut this season.
