Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) head coach Anil Kumble had said that the team were looking to include Chris Gayle in playing XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) before he hit by the stomach flu. Gayle was again missing during the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on Saturday.

But after the game action, the UniverseBoss posted a video from a hospital room. He wrote, “The struggle is real…Jah Jah.”

Later on the same day, Gayle posted a photo with a caption, “I can tell you this!!! I will never go down without a fight!! Brian Lara not happy with KXIP’s team selection against KKR

Kings XI Punjab

The lot of questions has been raised around Gayle’s position in KXIP squad and if he would get a game. Anil Kumble revealed that Gayle was supposed to play the match but he was sick.

Chris Gayle was going to play today’s match but he is sick. He is down with food poisoning that’s why he isn’t in the playing eleven,” Kumble had told commentators.

West Indies legend Brian Lara was disheartened after Chris Gayle was not entailed in Kings XI Punjab’s playing XI squad against KKR on Saturday.

I’m disappointed (that Gayle is not there). Chris Gayle is a fear factor… We’ve seen Jordan, has not been very good in the IPL so far, I’m not saying he’s a bad player but I think packing the batting with Chris Gayle is something that they should’ve done,” Lara said on the pre-match show at Star Sports.

Earlier, KXIP star batsman Mayank Agarwal had also talked about how Gayle has been often supporting the batting unit in the team by sharing his experience.

Gayle is an integral part of KXIP whether playing or mentoring. He has been speaking to all of us, contributing in the batters` meeting and also sharing crucial stuff. I have had great conversations with Gayle. We first played together in RCB and just watching him play and chatting is fantastic.”

Even here he told me don`t have to do anything extraordinary, just keep trusting your skills and execute them. He asks me to go out and enjoy the game. Before the last game, he said you are batting great and just look to get into good batting positions. If you are striking well, make sure you continue scoring runs. These are just a few of the many good things he keeps saying. He is just not helping me, but a lot of the batsmen,” Mayank told ANI.
