Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured an important victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) thanks to an incredible bowling effort from Lockie Ferguson. The mid-table clash at Abu Dhabi was viewed as an important clash in shaping the points table and KKR’s victory means they have pulled away from SRH on the points table.
SRH won the toss and chose to bowl first and KKR got off to a steady start before losing Rahul Tripathi in the Powerplay. Following his dismissal, Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana stitched together a good partnership before losing their wickets. Andre Russell batting at No. 4 didn’t last long. New captain Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik then ensured KKR finished with a flourish as they got to a 50 run partnership in just 27 balls to take KKR to a competitive 164.
SRH decided to change up their batting order as they sent Kane Williamson to open with Jonny Bairstow. The duo struck 58 runs in the Powerplay before the duo lost their wickets. Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey perished to Lockie Ferguson specials. It was then David Warner‘s job to finish the game off. However, in the last over bowled by Andre Russell with 18 runs required, Warner could only get 17 despite hitting three consecutive boundaries.
The game went to a Super Over where Ferguson nailed accurate deliveries to castle both Warner and Abdul Samad. With just 3 runs required, Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik took their side home.
