IPL 2020: Virender Sehwag fumes at Umpire for giving a ‘short-run’ which resulted in Kings Eleven defeat

The second match of the IPL 2020 saw a fantastic game between Kings Eleven Punjab and Delhi Capitals on Sunday. The match resulted in a tie, after which Delhi Capitals won the game in the super over. Kagiso Rabada, just like the one bowled last year against KKR, produced another sensational super over on Sunday. He gave just two runs with Delhi needing just 3 to win the game. Rishabh Pant didn’t take too long as he finished the game in just 2 deliveries.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals made 157 runs in 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant knock by Marcus Stoinis, who made 53 off just 21 balls. In pursuit of the total, Kings XI Punjab slipped to 55 for 5 in 9.6 overs. However, a sensational knock from Mayank Agarwal never the let the game away from the Kings. His 89-run knock helped the team level scores with 2 balls still to play. However, the last two balls resulted in two wickets as the match ended in a tie.

After the match, Virender Sehwag among other cricketers fumed at on-field umpires for wrongly giving a short-run in the 19th over of the second innings which eventually proved to be the turning point of the game. The incident happened in the nineteenth over of the second inning. Mayank Agarwal played Rabada for a two but the umpires wrongly gave a short run. A match which ended in a tie could have resulted in Punjab’s win had umpire not taken that decision.

I don’t agree with the man of the match choice . The umpire who gave this short run should have been man of the match. Short Run nahin tha. And that was the difference,” wrote Virender Sehwag. Kings Eleven Punjab will play their second game against RCB on Thursday.
