IPL 2020: ‘Want to make Shubhman Gill’s cricket journey easy,’ says KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Dinesh Karthik has expressed his intent to make sure that young batsman Shubhman Gill has an easy journey without any pressure throughout the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020).
Gill scored an unbeaten 70 runs — his fifth IPL half-century and a match-winning unbeaten 92-run partnership with Morgan that helped KKR beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 7 wickets to register their 1st win in the tournament at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
It feels good to see the youngsters doing well: Dinesh Karthik
Karthik also talked about Kamlesh Nagarkoti who made IPL debut in the match. The franchise brought him in the IPL 2018 edition but a series of injuries had delayed the young pacer from an opportunity in the previous season.
Nevertheless, Karthik said that the team have had an emotional journey with Nagarkoti for the last couple of years.
Karthik added that a single duck doesn’t make a player less capable, explaining his dismissal by Rashid Khan. Karthik came at a crucial juncture of the innings and was trapped leg before off a Rashid delivery.
“Always good to get on board. We have been working really hard. I think one of the advantages of having all-rounders and it is a privilege to use them whenever I can.
“The fact that we have been able to groom youngsters is pleasing. It has been an emotional journey for us with Nagarkoti for the last couple of years. But credit to the management to have stuck to him.
“It feels good to see the youngsters doing well. I want Gill to enjoy his journey in cricket. One duck doesn’t make you a bad player. I need to probably up my game and get a few runs,” Dinesh Karthik told Harsha Bhogle.
The Dinesh-led KKR will be seen in action against Steve Smith-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday (September 30).
