South African spinner Imran Tahir has said that it was very painful when he once saw compatriot and former Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis carry drinks for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League. Tahir is also a part of the CSK franchise in the IPL for whom he won the Purple Cap given to the leading wicket-taker in the tournament in 2019. Despite his stupendous form in 2019, Tahir hasn’t gotten to play a single game in this year’s IPL held at the UAE.

Chennai Super Kings have played 10 games and have won just 3 games. This year has arguably been their worst year since the inception of the IPL. The CSK batting has not fired and has struggled to find ‘intent’ in a run-chase. Their fielding hasn’t been up to the mark as aging legs have found it difficult to stay fit and active. Their bowling, while not bad, still has room for improvement. Many of the franchise’s fans have demanded that Tahir be included in CSK’s playing XI. Only time will tell if CSK will decide to give the leggie a go.

‘Best team, from my heart, is Chennai’ – Tahir

Speaking to Delhi Capitals and India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on his show ‘Hello Dubaiah’, Tahir opened up on his thoughts about the CSK franchise. “Best team, from my heart is Chennai. I’ve been all over the world. I’ve never seen so much respect given from a franchise. I’ve never seen someone look after my family so well, the fans in Chennai are unbelievably lovely,” Tahir said.

“When I play there it was a different atmosphere. And the main reason is I love their culture. They don’t talk about performances and are always supportive and that’s is what I like about it as in cricket You’ll perform one day, and not on another,” he added.

Tahir on asked about whether he will play for the franchise this season said he had ‘no clue’ and spoke about how difficult it is to get playing time in a franchise like CSK and in a league like IPL. “I have no clue. Earlier, Faf Du Plessis had to carry drinks the whole season. It was quite painful. He’s got a brilliant T20 average. I’m doing that this year. I actually got an idea of how he felt. I have been talking to him as well,” Tahir said.

With just four games left for CSK in the IPL, the franchise will look to finish on a high. It is also likely that they give players who haven’t had a chance to play a go in these games. Tahir expressed hope that he might get a game. “I hope I get a game,” said Tahir.
