As the storm around Suryakumar Yadav’s India snub keeps growing, an old tweet by Rohit Sharma has gone viral on social media. Indian cricket fans and veterans have stormed social media to express their disappointment over Yadav’s exclusion from the Australia tour. His career-high 79 not out against RCB last night to take MI home by 5 wickets. And the unique gesture he made after the game only fanned the fire.
The 30-year-old MI top-order batsman has amassed 362 runs in IPL 2020 already. Yadav also performed well in the Vijay Hazare trophy with 226 runs at an average of 113. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019, he scored 392 runs in 11 games with four half-centuries. Despite these brilliant figures, Yadav couldn’t make the cut to get on the flight to Australia.
Watch out for him in future
In the viral tweet from Rohit, he made an interesting comment on his current MI teammate, Suryakumar. The MI skipper had hailed him as a force to reckon in the future 9 years down the line.
The tweet read, “Just got done with BCCI awards here in Chennai..some exciting cricketers coming up..Suryakumar yadav from Mumbai to watch out for in future!“
This tweet has led fans to question the judgement of Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the current selection committee. Others even went on to advocate Rohit’s potential as the captain of India’s white-ball teams.
Rohit is currently suffering from a hamstring injury and has already missed three IPL games this season. It is feared that he might miss the Australia tour for the same as he was not named in the squad. But that is a whole other controversy altogether.
