IPL 2020: ‘We didn’t see the spark in youngsters,’ says CSK skipper MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings lost yet another game in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). This time their defeat came against Rajasthan Royals in match 37 following a below-average performance from the three-time IPL champions.
After a seven-wicket defeat, CSK skipper MS Dhoni made several remarks on the performance of his side. He went on to slam the young players, citing a lack of ‘spark’ in them.
“The youngsters, we didn’t see the spark to push the guys. But what this result has done is give those youngsters a chance in the rest of the tournament. Maybe going forward we bring them in, and they play without pressure,” said Dhoni at the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Also, you don’t want to chop and change. Insecurity is something you don’t want to prevail in the dressing room. Fair enough, this season we weren’t really there,” he added.
Shameful defeat for Chennai Super Kings
CSK opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The last year’s runner-ups could only manage to post a below-par score of 125-5 on the board after their 20 overs. In reply, Rajasthan Royals comfortably chased down the target in the 18th over of the match.
Dhoni said: “There was a bit (in the pitch) for the fast bowlers and the reason I brought (Ravindra) Jadeja was to see how much it was stopping, and it didn’t as much as the first innings. So I went with the fast bowlers. I don’t think the spinners got as much bite.
“It’s not always supposed to go your way. We have to see if the process was wrong. The result is a by-product of the process, but the fact still remains that if you’re focused on the process, then the undue pressure of the result doesn’t enter the dressing room,” he concluded.
