Sunrisers Hyderabad’s middle order seemed to have woke up just at the right time as they helped the side register an important win against Rajasthan Royals. Chasing a modest 155, SRH lost their explosive opening pair. But Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar came to the side’s rescue as they stitched a record unbeaten 140 run stand, highest in the IPL by an Indian pair, to see their side cross the line.

RR’s Jofra Archer breathed fire in the powerplay as he cleaned up the opening pair in just 3 overs. But his brilliant figures of 2/21 from four overs were not enough to win the two points for his side.

Talking about his match winning knock, Pandey shared that it was high time the middle order stepped up and won games for the side. He adds that he wanted to spend some time in the middle and once the shots came off of the middle he knew he had to finish the game for his side.

There were enough talks around our middle order. High time for us to perform. I just wanted to stay on the wicket and play my shots. Really happy that it came off today. We had the opportunity to win the game for SRH, really happy I’m standing here,” Pandey said after the match.

Pandey shares how the pair planned their innings. Their first job was to see off Archer’s spell. Once they did so, it was all about picking the right balls and keep the score board moving.

We had plans to see Jofra off. We had a plan to take on the leggies and Indian bowlers, and it paid off. The first ball I middled through covers and I tried to keep my shape. I was hitting it well and I tried to get my team over the line. Vijay was also long due and he stepped up batting at 4. We are trying to take positives from this match and we’ll try to keep it up for the rest of the tournament.”

With this win, SRH have now lunged to fifth spot in the points table and their hopes for a playoff spot are well and trully revived now.
