IPL 2021: AB de Villiers becomes sixth batsman to cross 5000-run mark in IPL history
AB de Villiers
AB de Villiers became just the sixth batter and second overseas player to cross the mark of 5000 runs in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The South African has been one of the most consistent performers in the tournament for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Before signing up with RCB, he was also a part of the Delhi Daredevils franchise where he was terrific as well.
The South African crossed the mark today in RCB’s match against Delhi Capitals (DC) where he walked in to bat with his side in trouble after losing the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell. After knocking the ball around for a while, de Villiers then started taking risks with some stupendous shot-making. His innings helped revive RCB’s innings and take them to a good score.
AB de Villiers joins elite list
AB de Villiers is currently sixth on the list of all-time top-scorers in the IPL. The list is led by RCB skipper Virat Kohli who has 6041 runs. Following him are Suresh Raina with 5472, Shikhar Dhawan with 5456, Rohit Sharma with 5431 and David Warner with 5390. de Villiers has now entered the 5000-run club and is set to go strong with still at least a few more years of cricket left in him.
de Villiers has 3 centuries and 40 half-centuries to his name in the tournament. The South African is also now level with Kohli with regard to the number of half-centuries. The list is led by David Warner who has 49.
