IPL 2021: CSK vs SRH, Match 23 – How can Sunrisers Hyderabad bounce back with a win over Chennai Super Kings today?

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have had a poor start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) season as they find themselves in the last place, having won just one match out of their first five. Coming off the back of a heartbreaking loss in the Super Over against Delhi Capitals (DC) that went down to the last ball, the David Warnerled side would want to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the other hand, are on a roll. They have just won four matches in a row following their defeat in the first match against DC. Their side looks to have all bases covered and with the confidence of thumping victories in the previous few matches, they would be extremely difficult to beat. CSK go head-to-head with SRH today.

On that note, we take a look at how SRH can defeat CSK today.

IPL 2021: CSK vs SRH – Key for SRH #1: Remove CSK openers early

CSK openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad are in terrific form at the moment, having provided two 50+ stands in each of the last two matches. The former has especially been terrific with his anchoring role laced with calculated risks. Gaikwad’s fluent striking is a huge positive for the Men in Yellow as well.

The key for SRH would thus, be to get rid of the openers early. If they do so, the CSK middle-order might have to play with a little more caution than they have done in the past. The opening bowlers will thus, hold key and if they do manage to get the openers out cheaply, it would be advantage SRH.

This is a problem that has been plaguing the Sunrisers for quite some time. Apart from the top 3 consisting of three of the best overseas batsmen in the world, SRH don’t boast of any reliable Indian batsman who can take them home or to a good total after the departure of the top order.

Manish Pandey was dropped and Virat Singh was brought in, but that move did not work and now, Pandey could see himself reinstated to the XI. He would have to take responsibility if that is the case, and ensure that there is intent in the middle-order while batting.
