Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is all set to enter a new phase in his cricket career from the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 23-year old will take the field as the captain of the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021. He was recently assigned with this new role after DC’s regular skipper Shreyas Iyer got ruled out from the tournament.

Delhi fans are excited to watch Pant at the new position with several international stalwarts like Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan and Steven Smith already in the side. Moreover, the southpaw is currently in his prime form in the international cricket team for team India.

Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel said that Rishabh will be the X-Factor for the Capitals in the upcoming season. He also mentioned that the left-hander will come with a lot of confidence owing to his current form.

“I think Rishabh Pant. Because if he wasn’t in his best of form last season, this year the way he has batted for India, I think he carries a lot of confidence with him and that’s what you want when you are playing a T20 game. You don’t want any doubts in your mind and especially a player like Rishabh Pant,” Parthiv told Star Sports.

The former wicketkeeper-batsman reckoned that Pant was earlier burdened with the comparison of MS Dhoni. However, the newly-appointed DC skipper doesn’t have to worry about being like Dhoni and can win matches on his own every given time.

“He was burdened with the comparison of MS Dhoni and he also tried to do that, but he himself is a brilliant player. He doesn’t have to worry about being like MS Dhoni. He can be better than MS Dhoni or he can win matches on his own every given time. So, I think Rishabh Pant will be probably holding the key for Delhi Capitals,” said Parthiv.
