IPL 2021: “On a different level” – Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan heap praise on Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw was the hero for Delhi Capitals (DC) as he guided them to victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with a stupendous knock that saw him pummel the bowlers at will. The young opener seemed to be in full control of his explosive innings as he seemed unstoppable despite the pitch and conditions not being the very best to bat on at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

It seemed all too easy for Shaw as he ensured that the target of 155 was overhauled in 16.3 overs. Although he got out towards the end and fell 18 runs short of his century, the knock should give him much-needed confidence going into the second half of the IPL season as DC look to make it to the top two.

Skipper Rishabh Pant spoke after the match about Prithvi Shaw’s innings and said, “He’s a talented player, we all know that. But if you give him confidence he can do wonders. Was only telling him to play the normal game. In this kind of match we can afford to think of run rate. Only thing we talk with youngsters is just enjoy cricket, do your best. Last match we only lost by one run, so as a team we talk about we don’t have to change anything.”

Shaw’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan said, “Prithvi was playing amazing, was lovely to watch it from the other end. He was playing totally on a different level. It was lovely to watch him as well.”

Speaking further about the match and his own batting, Dhawan said, “I made a conscious effort to bring up my strike-rate because I knew that this game needed that and me as an opener had to take those risks. At the same time, smart enough to know when to take risks and when not to. Like today, there was no need for me to take any risk, I enjoy taking smart risks and trying something new as well rather than just sticking to the same process. When you take risks, you get reward, so I enjoy taking that risk.”

DC’s next match is against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on the second of May.
