IPL 2021: Royal Challengers Bangalore rope in Scott Kuggeleijn as Kane Richardson’s replacement

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have signed New Zealand all-rounder Scott Kuggeleijn as a replacement signing for Kane Richardson who left the camp due to anxiety surrounding the COVID-19 situation in India. It is noteworthy that Kuggeleijn was already a part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp as a reserve player. He was also previous a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2019.

The current uncertainty over the COVID-19 situation in India has led to a few players leaving and expressing concerns about the same. The likes of Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa who were a part of the RCB franchise announced their decision to leave and are en route Australia. Further, Ravichandran Ashwin announced that he would take a break from the tournament to be with his family.

According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, Scott Kuggeleijn has moved from Mumbai Indians to Royal Challengers Bangalore. The news came in today when the RCB franchise were playing against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad. The news has not yet been officially confirmed by the franchises.

It is noteworthy that Kuggeleijn has already taken part in the IPL when he was roped in as a replacement for the injured Lungi Ngidi by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He played in two matches and picked up two wickets at an economy of 8.88 in 2019. He was then released ahead of the 2020 season after Ngidi’s return and then went unsold at the auction for the UAE edition of the tournament.
