IPL 2021: Twitter reacts as sandstorm stops play ahead of second innings

Narendra Modi Stadium

Delhi Capitals (DC) played Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) today at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and in scenes that are not normally seen on a cricket field, a sandstorm came about and stopped play for about 10 minutes before the second innings began.

Earlier, DC put RCB in to bat first and got off to a terrific start. They got rid of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal of successive deliveries to bowled dismissals. Glenn Maxwell then revived the innings for a bit along with Rajat Patidar before the duo perished leaving AB de Villiers with all to do. That was exactly what the South African did, like he so often has, by coming up with some insane striking at the death. His half-century ensured that RCB made it past the 170-run mark.

After de Villiers’ innings, while the post-innings interviews were being taken, a sandstorm started to develop. Ishant Sharma who was being interviewed by broadcasters at the time said, “Sandstorm has been happening suddenly, I think you can hear the wind.” The players then took cover and went indoors for the innings break. Following the 15 minutes for innings breaks, the players walked out to the middle.

However, the umpires deemed that play was still not possible due to the heavy winds and for visibility reasons. The players therefore, waited at the dugout for a good 10 minutes before play was resumed once again. Due to the stoppage in play, users on Twitter were busy reacting to the same.
