IPL 2021: VIVO to remain title sponsor for 14th season

Chinese mobile manufacturers VIVO will be the title sponsors for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Brijesh Patel, IPL chairman announced that VIVO is the title sponsor for this year’s edition. Last season, VIVO had pulled out of the league after a physical scuffle between India and China at the border. In their absence, Dream 11 replaced them as the title sponsor.
“Vivo is back, this edition to be announced as VIVO IPL 2021, welcome back Vivo,” said Brijesh on Star Sports during the welcome speech of the IPL auction.
The IPL chairman also confirmed that IPL 2021 will most likely see fans return to the stadium. With fans returning for the Test series between India and England, there is a big possibility that IPL might see fans in attendance.
“Cannot wait to have fans back in attendance, most likely they will be in attendance for this year’s IPL, we held one season behind closed doors,” said Brijesh.
Glenn Maxwell sold for 14.25 crores
After a fierce bidding war along with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) signed Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for a sum of Rs. 14.25 crores. The two franchises were the only ones in auction apart from some initial interest from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The rest of the tables watched in bated breath as CSK and RCB engaged in to and fro bidding.
Maxwell didn’t have a very good season last year for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) as he scored only 108 runs. He found the going tough and was eventually dropped from his side’s playing XI. He however, displayed exemplary form in the international matches that followed against India. The all-rounder who can also bowl off-spin was always however, bound to be hot property and the same was proved at the auction.
