However, Roethlisberger stunned everyone when he made a few comments in the media regarding how the youngsters were handled at the Steelers, and how he thought that had a role to play in their lack of playoff success in recent years. The likely future Hall of Famer claimed that the youngsters were coddled, which according to him led to a decline in their step-up.

These comments caused a major furore in the media and leading NFL analyst, Colin Cowherd spoke on the issue during his latest episode of his podcast, The Herd. The veteran TV presenter felt that Roethlisberger’s comments were not directed actually toward the players, but it was instead directed at the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin.

Colin Cowherd also felt that the Steelers have not been the same since the departure of star running back, Le’Veon Bell he vented out his anger so as to say, by making those comments on how the youngsters were handled by the franchise.

Cowherd said on his show, “And I think… he’s taken a shot a little bit at Mike and the AB and the Mike and Le’Veon Bell thing for the record. Steelers’ run game has never been the same since Le’Veon left. But I will say this. Players are different. Coaches are different.”

Cowherd finished off by saying, “Tomlin is a former player. He tends to give a lot of leeway to dramatic players in noisy places… So these players and the coaches are different… They’re a little loose for my taste… I think it was a shot, not at the players. I think it was a little bit of a passive-aggressive shot at Tomlin, and it comes off as he’s dogging the players.”
