IT’S SAFE! After Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray gives his perspective on Vaccination!

Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, two absolute legends of the game, are currently making a comeback (from their respective injuries) in Abu Dhabi. On being asked, they have made some statements about the importance of being vaccinated. At first, the Spaniard had said, “If experts say we need it, who am I to say anything else”. Now, Murray has also made statements supporting vaccinations.

There has been a lot of debate around the mandatory vaccination for participants at the Australian Open next year. Just like every other sport, the pandemic has affected Tennis as well. We have seen cancellation and postponement of events during the past couple of years.

With new strains lurking to cause damage the conductors of the Australian Open thought it would be fitting to make vaccination mandatory for the participants. However, there have been some skepticism around the vaccination status of the World No.1 Novak Djokovic, who according to reports is himself a bit skeptical about the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Murray confirmed that he will be flying down to Melbourne and will be participating in the Australian Open. The former world no. 1 and a 5-time finalist at the Australian Open would be looking for getting a wildcard into the event. However, he said his “ego is fine enough” to play the qualifying round if required.

Murray is planning on taking a Covid-19 vaccine booster shot before boarding the flight to Melbourne. The former World No.1 believes that the vaccines are safe and effective and he is ready to get his third jab before leaving for the land down under.

When Murray was asked about Novak Djokovic’s skepticism about the vaccination and the possibility of him not being able to participate at the Australian Open, the former World No.1 had this to say, “I would be surprised by that because I believe the vaccine is to be safe. I know some people are now saying they’re not effective because they’re now having to get more vaccines to help against the new strains and everything, but that’s I think with a lot of illnesses and diseases” said Murray.

“Like the flu for example, we’re offered flu jabs every year, and they’re tweaked slightly, just to try to reduce the risk. I believe them to be safe and effective, so yeah, I’d be surprised if he didn’t go for that reason. But also, I guess it’s getting very close now and we don’t really know exactly what’s happening, but you’d assume that he’s potentially been reluctant to do it. So I guess if I heard tomorrow he wasn’t going, would I be surprised? No I don’t think so,” he added.
