Ja 1: Nike unveils Ja Morant’s first signature shoe right before his Christmas Game

Ja Morant has become the newest member of Nike Basketball, as he joins the club of elite superstars in the Nike family. Nike revealed Morant’s first signature sneaker, the Ja 1. The brand hadn’t signed a new face for the signature shoe since signing Paul George in 2017. The release of the Memphis Grizzlies star signature shoe was announced right after Nike broke all partnerships with Kyrie Irving. However, the shoe was in the works since 2019.
Morant is the face of the new generation and represents the new culture of modern basketball. Nike has designated Morant as its “first Gen Z” athlete. “His authentic personality, deep love for his community, family, and joy for the game makes him very special — on and off the court,” said Nike VP of Global Men’s Basketball Scott Munson. “We are thrilled to add Morant to our signature roster and can’t wait for everyone to learn more about his first shoe, the Nike Ja 1.”
Detailing Ja 1, Nike said that the low-top Zoom is cushioned and “constructed to keep players in control, maximize hang time, and reduce landing force through lockdown benefits.” Ja 1 is constructed with mesh upper, reinforced midfoot, wrap-around gradient Swoosh, and graphic detailing along the heel. Morant’s signature shoe is also shown in a Grizzlies-like colorway.

Ja Morant’s Ja 1 is set to release in April 2023
Morant will debut his signature shoe on Christmas Day matchup against the defending champions Golden State Warriors. Memphis Grizzlies are playing their first Christmas Game in franchise history. However, the final release of the shoe for sale in the market in April of next year. However, the details about the shoe are yet to be announced by the shoe giant.
Speaking about the idea behind the shoe Morant said that his shoe was for everyone who has been “overlooked” and was never encouraged to dream big. “It’s a shoe for underdogs who have the dawg in them,” said Morant. “Kicks for anyone who has ever been underrated or overlooked, who’s been told they’re too small, or their dreams too big.”
Ja 1 is aesthetically constructed and features Morant’s first signature logo. The logo has been designed with every idea that represents Morant and his style of play. Ja 1 represents Morant’s dynamic precision and determined approach to playing the game of basketball. Stylized JA sits at the top of a wide chevron, an inverted wide V. The logo represents Morant’s ability to face and rise above all the difficulties and obstacles to achieve his dream.
