LeBron James is still the biggest draw and name in the NBA. He may be well past his prime and heading into his 24th season, but that has taken nothing away from his influence and impact on the league.
The NBA world was caught in a frenzy following the announcement of his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers. Many expected him to end his career in LA after spending eight years there, but he decided to embark on a new journey with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Hollywood star Jamie Foxx is a longtime friend of James. Foxx had a heated exchange with former NBA player Rashad McCants and spoke in defense of the ‘King.’
Mindset is not a statistic. Where is he right now? I thought we were talking about LeBron James. I’m your conscience. I hate to do it. LeBron James has never been the second best player on any team. He’s 50 years old. Still hooping. You’re doing a podcast. All the muscles and you’re doing a podcast. He wants to beat me up now because LeBron James is the GOAT.

Jamie Foxx is an avid NBA fan. The actor has come out in defense of James in the past and was in no mood to hold back once again.
Rashad McCants has played for five seasons in the NBA. He was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2005 and saw his NBA career come to an early end in 2009. The former lottery pick regularly appeared on the Gil’s Arena podcast and has often been critical of James.
The two had a heated conversation, but it was in good spirits. During the exchange, Foxx joked that he would tell James about the conversation the next time they met and asked him to stop sending McCants any sneakers.
LeBron James was not the first option for the Lakers last season
James may be in the final stages of his career, but his performances last season showed everyone that he can still play at a very high level. He averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists in 60 appearances and also led the Lakers to the second round of the playoffs without Luka Doncic by his side.

However, James saw himself playing in a new role for the Lakers last season. After the arrival of Doncic at the trade deadline last year, the Lakers built their team around the Slovenian as they placed him as the focal point of the team. Hence, James made some sacrifices as he played as a second option and sometimes even as a third option behind Austin Reaves.
When Foxx said James has never been the second-best player on any team, McCants was quick to retort. It is expected that James will play a similar role in his new team next season.
With Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey as his teammates, this team may be the most talented team James has ever played for in his career. However, like in the postseason last season, he has shown that he is still capable of being the best player in a playoff series.
Jamie Foxx says Michael Jordan is the GOAT, but LeBron James is the best basketball player ever
The ongoing debate on who is the GOAT has always been between LeBron James and Michael Jordan. Both players have transcended the sport like nobody else. While Jordan was regarded for his mindset and killer instinct, James rewrote the record books.
During a back-and-forth with his friend, Foxx weighed in on the Jordan-James GOAT debate.
Michael Jordan is the GOAT. He is the overall GOAT, but LeBron James is a better basketball player… He’s No. 5 in assists. He’s No. 1 in points scored, 42,000, and still playing.”
Jamie Foxx on the GOAT debate
It is a debate that will go on forever, as there is no definite answer. But James will have the opportunity to make a stronger case for himself as he heads into his 24th season in the NBA.
