Jannik Sinner is 19-years-old and is competing against the best on the ATP Tour. Yet, the Italian is en route to become a household name sooner rather than later. Further, the World No.37 managed to knock out Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, two of the most prominent Top-10 players this past year. Moreover, the youngster bagged his maiden ATP title at the Sofia Open by downing Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3). 

In addition to these impressive lieu of results, Sinner accumulated the eighth best return metrics this season. An ‘Infosys ATP Beyond The Numbers’ analysis of eight players aged 21-and-under identifies him as the peak performer.

The Italian led the return-leaderboard as he was ranked at No.8. He won 32.5% of the first-serve points, which is also the seventh-best among all his peers. Not only this, Sinner made a jump of 41 places from being ranked 78 in 2019 to finishing the year as the World No.37.

Firstly, he reached his maiden Grand Slam final at the Roland Garros on debut. Secondly, by doing so, Jannik also became the youngest male player to achieve this feat since Rafael Nadal in 2005.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is the only other ‘21-and under’ player to have finished in the Top-20 in this regard. Furthermore, Fokina came in the 11th place and his first-serve return points won clock at 32.6%
