Jannik Sinner earned his 60th win of the season against Japanese Taro Daniel in the second round of the Shanghai Masters. However, it was not the victory that caught fans’ attention, rather, it was the Italian’s kind gesture to a ball girl who was accidentally hit by Daniel’s serve.
Sinner arrived in Shanghai following his disappointing defeat to Carlos Alcaraz at the China Open final. The Italian failed to defend the title and his 15-match winning streak was also broken by his arch-rival. After earning a first-round bye as a Top seed, he faced Taro Daniel in the second round of the Shanghai tournament.
The 23-year-old gave his Japanese opponent no chance in the match as he forced him deep into his baseline. On the other hand, Daniel lacked the necessary arsenal to put Sinner in trouble when expected.
The Italian claimed the first set 6-1. During the second set, Daniel saved for a point which Sinner failed to win, leaving the ball to hit a ball girl.

Sinner made sure he won the match point, before going to check on the ball girl who was hit. The Italian denied Daniel any chance of a comeback to win 6-1, 6-4 and move into the third round of the Shanghai Masters. He becomes the first man born in the 2000s to record 250 tour-level victory.
With his victory over Daniel, Sinner improved his opening-round match record to 14-0 this year. He holds a 51-0 record against players ranked outside of the Top 20. The last time he lost to a player ranked lower than the aforementioned was at the 2023 Cincinnati Open against Serbian Dusan Lajovic.
