Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have faced each other in the finals of the last two Grand Slams, continuing their dominance at the top of the ATP rankings. Together, they have claimed the last seven major titles since the beginning of 2024. Sinner has won four of those, while Alcaraz holds three. Their rivalry has quickly become the most talked-about in men’s tennis.
Despite their current success, Sinner believes it is too early to compare their rivalry to those of the Big 3 era. He pointed out that legends like Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic competed at the highest level for over 15 years. For Sinner and Alcaraz to be seen in the same light, he says they must show consistent excellence over a similar period. Sinner said in the interview on CNBC:
Honestly, I don’t think you cannot compare us, you know, with with Rafa, Roger and Novak and Andy too, because, you know, we just make this happen since couple of years, they made it for 15 years, so let’s see if we can do the same.
Their most recent matches have been thrilling. Alcaraz came back from two sets down to win the French Open final in five sets. Just weeks later, Sinner responded by defeating Alcaraz in four sets to claim the Wimbledon title. The Italian showed composure and determination after missing match points in Paris.
Sinner and Alcaraz have now met 13 times on the ATP Tour, with Alcaraz holding an 8–5 lead in their head-to-head record. Their last four encounters have all come in tournament finals. Given their current form and youth, this rivalry is expected to continue to shape men’s tennis for many years.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner write further history
World No.1 Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz continue to dominate men’s tennis, building a remarkable Grand Slam streak. Sinner’s victory over Alcaraz in the 2025 Wimbledon final marked the second consecutive major final between the two. Their dominance now spans seven straight Grand Slam titles, a run that began at the 2024 Australian Open. This achievement places them among the most successful duos in the Open Era.

Only five male pairings in the Open Era have managed to win seven or more consecutive Grand Slam titles, with both players winning at least two each. Sinner and Alcaraz are now tied with Rod Laver and Arthur Ashe, who accomplished a similar feat from Wimbledon 1968 to the 1970 Australian Open. Sinner currently holds four titles in this run, while Alcaraz has won three. Their run began after Djokovic’s win at the 2023 US Open and could extend further if their form continues.
The third-longest streak came from Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who won eight consecutive Grand Slam events between Roland Garros 2018 and the 2020 Australian Open. During this time, Djokovic won five majors, and Nadal claimed three. They repeated this kind of dominance earlier from the 2010 French Open to the 2012 French Open, sharing nine straight titles. Nadal had five in that run, while Djokovic took four.
The longest Grand Slam streak by a duo remains the 11 straight majors won by Federer and Nadal from the 2005 French Open to the 2007 US Open. Federer took eight of those titles, dominating on grass and hard courts, while Nadal controlled the clay. Their sequence was broken at the 2008 Australian Open when Djokovic claimed his first major. Sinner and Alcaraz now stand among these historic rivalries and could climb higher if their dominance continues.
Jannik Sinner suffers major setback
Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner earned £3 million for winning the 2025 Wimbledon men’s singles title. However, he won’t be keeping the full amount. Due to UK tax laws, a large portion of his winnings will go to HM Revenue & Customs. Both Sinner and women’s champion Iga Swiatek face a tax rate of about 36.5% on their prize money, significantly reducing their take-home earnings.

Despite the tax cut, Sinner’s win was a major milestone. He defeated Carlos Alcaraz in four sets to claim his first Wimbledon title. The final score was 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Sinner struggled early but rebounded with strong serving and consistent pressure, especially as Alcaraz faltered on key points. It was a determined performance against the two-time defending champion.
This Grand Slam victory is Sinner’s fourth overall. He previously won the Australian Open and US Open, both back-to-back before serving a doping suspension. He tested positive for a banned substance and accepted a three-month ban under a deal with WADA. The suspension didn’t slow his momentum, as he returned to win Wimbledon in style.
Sinner’s latest title adds to his growing legacy. He now only needs a French Open win to complete the career Grand Slam. His win at Wimbledon was also a form of redemption after losing to Alcaraz in a dramatic final at Roland Garros just a month earlier. The 23-year-old continues to establish himself as one of the sport’s leading figures.
