Jannik Sinner was expected to face a tough challenge from Daniil Medvedev when they faced each other in the quarterfinals of the US Open on September 4. That wasn’t the case however as the crowd inside Arthur Ashe Stadium saw Sinner come out on top with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 win to secure a berth in the semifinals.

Being a heavy contender now that the big names have been knocked out of the tournament, Sinner doesn’t feel his being the only Grand Slam winner in the draw can guarantee him his second major title. Sinner also had a successful campaign at the Cincinnati Masters and has beaten his opponents in the previous rounds at the US Open without much effort.

No, you know, everyone, whoever is in quarters or semis or round of 16, deserves to be there. You know, no win is granted. You always have to find a solution against each opponent. I think that's what I try to do.
Jannik Sinner said at the press conference

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz bowed out in the third and second rounds respectively, making Sinner the favorite to win. The other players who have made it to the semifinals are Jack Draper, Frances Tiafoe, and Taylor Fritz.

Jannik Sinner says Jack Draper is playing his best tennis at the US Open

Draper has never won a major title, with the US Open being the first Grand Slam event where he reached the semifinals. He has won just one title this season (the Stuttgart Open). Before arriving in New York, he got knocked out in his opening round and the quarterfinals at the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters respectively. Sinner thinks the match against the 22-year-old will be challenging as the latter has been playing good tennis in this tournament.

And as I said, Jack is playing some amazing tennis. You know, maybe the best tennis he's played until now. So it's going to be a tough one.
Jannik Sinner said at the press conference

Sinner won this year’s Australian Open after which he went on to win four more titles. Last year at Flushing Meadows, Sinner got eliminated from the fourth round and the semifinal this year is his first in the tournament.
