- Jannik Sinner won his fifth consecutive Masters 1000 title with a victory over Alexander Zverev.
- He expressed regret about missing time with his family due to his tennis career.
- Sinner's parents prefer to live a normal life in South Tyrol rather than travel with him to tournaments.
Jannik Sinner etched his name in the record books once again this season. On Sunday (May 3), the Italian ace clinched a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alexander Zverev, becoming the first man to win five consecutive Masters 1000 titles.
At the press conference, Sinner paid an emotional tribute to his family. He was told by a journalist that on the same day as the final, Spain also celebrated National Mother’s Day, and was asked to describe his mother.
I consider myself very lucky. Lucky because when I was 13, I made a choice to leave home and to go to a center to practice. I think this for parents is very difficult, especially for a mother, you know, to accept that in a way, to just go and leaving home… I think it was tough for me, but it was for sure more tough for parents because they also would like to see the kid growing up. I missed out a little bit of time, spending time with my parents.
Sinner’s parents, Hanspeter Sinner and Siglinde Sinner, don’t usually travel with him to tournaments, unlike his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz‘s family, especially his brother Alvaro Alcaraz. Instead, they want to live a normal life in South Tyrol and spend as much time as possible with his grandparents.
Because when somebody is not there anymore, then you regret it. So hopefully I can have some more time with my parents and the people I love, and also with my brother and friends. Because things can change. So she’s definitely a role model, and I’m very happy to have my mom…and very happy to have my dad…and they are a true inspiration for me. I just try to be a little bit like them, you know, because then I know that I’m a good person.

Sinner’s family was there in the stands of Court Rainier III when he defeated Alcaraz in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters. It was his career’s first Big Title on clay.
Marion Bartoli feels only Novak Djokovic can compete against Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been dominating so much in the tournament that this year, whenever they have been in the draw (except for the Barcelona Open), one of them has emerged victorious. Alcaraz won at the Australian Open and the Qatar Open, and Sinner lifted titles in the Sunshine Double events, Monte Carlo, and Madrid.

In Melbourne, Alcaraz won the title and became the youngest Career Grand Slam champion in the Open Era. His opponent in the final was none other than Novak Djokovic, who reached his first Major final since the 2024 Wimbledon after knocking out two-time defending champion Sinner in the semifinal after a five-set battle.
In the 2024 Paris Olympics, Alcaraz lost the gold medal to Djokovic. Former WTA player Marion Bartoli thinks the only player who can challenge the dominance of Sincaraz at the moment is the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
For me, the only one capable of competing against Sinner and Alcaraz is Novak Djokovic. When he is fit and healthy, he is the only one who can challenge them a bit. For the rest, the gap is becoming so huge that it must be a bit discouraging.
Marion Bartoli said on Sky Sports Tennis
In Barcelona, Alcaraz had to withdraw from his second-round match due to a wrist injury and was forced to skip the Madrid Open as well. He, in fact, will not be defending his titles in Rome and Paris.
It was Sinner whom Alcaraz defeated in the finals of these two events last year. Sinner, now the winner of three clay-court titles, said despite playing non-stop tennis since the Indian Wells Masters, he is thinking of participating in his home Masters 1000 event.
