Veteran middleweight fighter Jared Cannonier had an incredible night at UFC Vegas 102 after he successfully picked up a dominating win. ‘The Killa Gorilla’ beat opponent Gregory Rodrigues via TKO in the fourth round. As a 40-year-old, Cannonier impressed a lot of fans and also explained the secret of his toughness.

During the first round of the fight, Cannonier got dropped by Rodrigues on two different occasions. The ‘RoboCop’ was motivated to finish the fight in the early rounds. However, the former title contender made sure to remain calm and make his comeback. After the fight, the American fighter made a hilarious comment about his toughness.

You know what they say, black don’t crack.

Other than him, UFC women’s strawweight veteran Angela Hill was another fighter in the fight card who was in her 40s. After the fight, she tweeted about her and Cannonier emerging victorious. This particular comment motivated Cannonier to make such a comment which left everybody laughing.

Age has always been a massive factor that determines the form of fighters in MMA. However, there are fighters such as Jan Blachowicz, Derrick Lewis, and Stephen Thompson who are still ranked despite being in their 40s. On top of that, Cannonier is about to start his next title run.

In 2022, Jared Cannonier fought against Israel Adesanya for the middleweight championship, but failed to capture it. After that, he bounced back and went on a two-win fight streak. However, his momentum was halted after his TKO loss against Nassourdine Imavov. The American fighter had protested the stoppage and claimed that it was premature.

With the recent win against Gregory Rodrigues, Cannonier is now back in the mix and plans to continue this momentum. After the fight, ‘The Killa Gorilla’ shared his intentions to fight top-ranked fighters. Ideally, he wants the title fight, but understands the UFC matchmaking.

Maybe a Robert Whittaker match-up. As far as guys ahead of me, a match-up that the UFC would like to make. What would I like? The champ. But realistically, if I could just get a ranked opponent.

Jared Cannonier has always been a humble and calm fighter. Even at the age of 40, he frequently provides entertaining fights and is willing to do more. Robert Whittaker has previously defeated him at UFC 254. As such, avenging his loss to Whittaker could lead Cannonier to a title shot. However, the UFC will have the ultimate say on what’s next for the veteran knockout artist.
