Starting a new chapter of your life is scary and Jason Kelce is well accompanied by that feeling. He expressed his jitters about the new phase of his career after retiring from a Hall of Fame-worthy career of 13 years.
It’s not hidden how attached the legendary center is to football and his one and only team, the Philadelphia Eagles as he bid a teary goodbye earlier this year. He is now embarking on a new pathway with a Monday Night Football gig with ESPN, which he officially signed as a multi-year deal last month.
But he is nervous about it, even though his ‘New Heights’ podcast with his younger brother is immensely popular across the country. In a recent conversation with Andrew Santino, Kelce opened up about his nervousness about his appearance when Santino jokingly asked him about it.
Oh, I am nervous, and I think that’s good. I think every game that I ever played in my life—that I played really well, I was nervous. But it was a healthy amount, not to the point where you’re like you can’t do it.Jason Kelce said
He also highlighted the sheer difference he learned between the structured framework of broadcasting and the spontaneous culture of the NFL after talking to a lot of people and observing that the former has less freedom.
Eagles without Jason Kelce for first time in over a decade
If that wasn’t enough, this will be the first season since 2010 without the legendary Eagles center on the football field. Retiring from the NFL has not been easy on Jason Kelce, especially with the franchise where he spent 13 years of his professional life. Kelce opened up about it on a recent episode of his famous podcast.
Jason Kelce tried to explain his feeling of not being part of his former team anymore to his brother, Travis Kelce.
It feels weird not going into the building and man, it's just the little conversations you have.Jason Kelce said
In those 13 years that Jason spent in the NFL, he succeeded with a Super Bowl victory, seven Pro Bowl nods, and six first-team All-Pro designations. Once he retired, his teammates referred to him “GOAT” center while they too could feel his absence deeply.
