Fame brings an athlete all the riches he can hope for, but it also puts a target on their back. Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders experienced it firsthand on Saturday.

Deion Sanders Buffaloes traveled to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City to play against the Jayhawks, who made a name for themselves as a hard-hitting defensive unit. The tackles were flying in at regular intervals, but one almost sent Shedeur Sanders to the hospital.

Midway through the second quarter, as the Buffs trailed 7-20, Sanders took off with the ball, but before crossing the line of scrimmage, he intended to get rid of it to one of his receivers.

However, just as he was about to release it, Jayhawks linebacker Dean Miller smashed into his left knee. Remarkably, he did not waste any time getting back up on his feet and prepared for the next snap.

Football fans call blatant targeting by a Jayhawks player on Shedeur Sanders

Sanders is as tough as they come. During his first year at Colorado, he was one of the most sacked quarterbacks in college football. Even though the situation improved this year, the 22-year-old still digested several hits.

The Jayhawks tried to take advantage of a loose situation by low tackle on Sanders, which according to fans was very dangerous, and the referees had to take action but did not.

The game ended with Colorado succumbing to their third loss of the season as the game ended 21-37 for the Jayhawks. Despite Shedeur Sanders’ efforts to reduce the gap, the Buffs fell short with more dogged defending from the home team.

Sanders finished the night with just six incompletions—23 completed from 29 for 266 yards (144.66 quarterback rating) and three touchdowns. WR/CB Travis Hunter caught 8 passes for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns, making him only the second player since the 1980s to have 10 touchdowns and two interceptions in an NCAA competition. On the final day of the regular season, the Buffs will welcome the Oklahoma State Cowboys to Folsom Park.
