The blockbuster trade of Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers will go down as one of the most shocking trades in recent years. Nobody saw it coming, as he led the Celtics to second place in the Eastern Conference standings after finishing at sixth place in the MVP race. In short, they traded him after his best individual season.
The move also saw the Celtics split their star duo of Brown and Jayson Tatum. Brown and Tatum were drafted by the franchise in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Together, they formed one of the league’s most formidable duos over the last decade.
They found success in their first postseason together, reaching the Eastern Conference Final. Since then, they reached the NBA Finals twice in 2022 and 2024. In their second Finals appearance in 2024, they ended the Celtics’ 16-year wait for a championship with Brown winning the Finals MVP award.
The two stars shared immense success on the court; hence, many believed that they had a good relationship off the court as well. However, recent reports suggested that their relationship was not the same anymore.
While Tatum dismissed the reports of their strained relationship and even posted a heartfelt goodbye to his former teammate, Brown revealed that the two have not spoken to each other since his exit. Tatum has been criticized for allowing Brown’s trade to happen.
In the latest episode of Summer of Jayson, titled “The Sit Down,” on his YouTube channel, the forward revealed that he was in Las Vegas when the trade happened and made it clear that he was just as shocked as everyone else. However, Brown’s comment with a cap emoji caught everyone’s eye.

The cap emoji means “cap,” which is slang for a “lie” or “lying”. So it seems the former Finals MVP doesn’t buy Tatum’s narrative after his shocking departure from the Celtics in the summer.

A few weeks after the trade, Brown did spark rift rumors when he liked a post pointing the finger at Tatum for not standing up for him. Jayson Tatum has done and said whatever he can to show everything is fine between them, but Brown’s latest Instagram comment suggests otherwise.
Brown’s cryptic comments drew thousands of reactions across social media.

Jaylen Brown shared a message after the 76ers’ comeback against the Cavaliers
Jaylen Brown marked his 76ers debut with an impressive opening-night win over the defending-champion New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. While it was a statement win to many, Brown and his teammates made another strong statement on Thursday night.

That’s how you handle adversity. Down 20. It’s not gonna be perfect. All year, we just gotta handle adversity well.
