Jayson Tatum led the Boston Celtics to their 18th NBA championship, and it seems his impressive performance is soon to earn him a lucrative contract offer. According to multiple reports, the Celtics will offer Tatum a $315 million supermax extension, the largest contract in NBA history.

Tatum is eligible for this extension due to his All-NBA First Team honors this season. The negotiating window is now open, and the deal is expected to be announced after the championship parade on Friday. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania have both reported on the impending deal.

Once these NBA Finals are over, teams are now allowed to start negotiating contract extensions, negotiating with their own free agents. Which means that the Celtics will soon present Jayson Tatum with the largest contract in NBA history, a five-year, $315 million extension.

The Celtics and Tatum’s agent will begin talks on the five-year extension soon, with ESPN’s Brian Windhorst predicting the deal will be signed “in the next week or two.” Tatum’s impressive performance has earned him the maximum contract, and the Celtics are willing to pay the price to keep their star player.

The Celtics and Jayson Tatum will start beginning talks on that five-year, $315 million deal that’ll happen after everyone’s sobered up. The whole team is in Miami right now, they’re having a great time, and then the parade is going to be Friday. I would expect, at some point after that, Jayson Tatum and his agent and the Celtics get down to brass tacks.

Shams Charania said during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show:

This deal comes on the heels of Jaylen Brown‘s $300 million max extension last summer, setting a new precedent for the Celtics’ willingness to invest in their young talent. The reports suggest that the deal is a matter of when, not if, and Jayson Tatum is expected to sign the largest contract in NBA history soon.

Jayson Tatum offers heartfelt congratulations to Jaylen Brown on NBA Finals MVP award

The Boston Celtics won the NBA Championship on Monday evening, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 in Game 5 of the Finals. Jaylen Brown was named the 2024 Finals MVP, finishing the game with 21 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

Tatum congratulated Brown on his well-deserved award, expressing his happiness for his teammate’s accomplishment. Tatum emphasized that the main goal was to win the championship, and they didn’t care who received the Finals MVP award. He acknowledged that he and Brown needed each other throughout the journey.

First of all, congrats to him. Well deserved, extremely happy for him. This was a hell of an accomplishment. The main goal for us was to win a championship. We didn't care who got Finals MVP. I know that I need him through this journey, and he needs me. It was great to see him have that moment and share that moment with him.
