Following the 5-3 loss against the Rays, the Yankees fell to an 8-5 record. At one stage, they were 7-1 and seemed to be building a strong early lead in the American League East division.

After the game, he was asked by the reporters about his slow start. During this, the 2-time All-Star claimed the cold weather as the reason for this.

It’s cold. It’s literally all it is. My swing feels great. When you step into that cold weather and you stand there a couple of innings, your body starts to freeze. I’m not using that as an excuse. I said the same thing last year. As soon as the weather heats up, I heat up.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. said

As for anyone wondering about the weather, it was 50 degrees Fahrenheit when the Yankees took on the Athletics at Yankee Stadium. On Friday, it was 72 degrees Fahrenheit at Tropicana Field.

Chisholm Jr. started the 2025 season slowly as well. In 12 games, he had a .180/.255/.460 slash line. He finished the campaign with a .242/.333/.481 slash line.

He also had a career high in home runs (31), RBIs (80) and fWAR (4.4). In what was his first full season with the Yankees, the 28-year-old won a Silver Slugger Award for his batting performances.

The 50-50 club (50 home runs, 50 stolen bases) was founded by Shohei Ohtani in 2024. In his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Japanese international hit 50 home runs and stole 50 bases. He finished that year with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases, one stolen base shy of creating the 50-60 club.

This is obviously no ordinary feat. Chisholm Jr. believes that he has what it takes to be part of this exclusive club this year. While speaking with the reporters during the Spring Training in February, he claimed that they were looking at the next 50-50 member.
