This week’s SmackDown in Kansas City had several matchups with high implications. In one of those, Jey Uso defeated Je’Von Evans to make it to the finals of the King of the Ring tournament. ‘The Yeet Master’ overcame a physically wrecked Evans to set up a showdown with Oba Femi at Night of Champions. The winner between Femi and Uso will compete for the world title of their choosing at SummerSlam.
Should Uso win, he has made it crystal clear that he’d be going after Cody Rhodes‘ Undisputed WWE Championship. ‘The Right Hand Man’ of Roman Reigns even confronted ‘The QB1’ on this week’s SmackDown after his semifinals victory. Rhodes knew Uso had just one more step to climb for their match to happen.

The former AEW EVP, however, reminded his former tag team partner that Oba Femi was in his way next. Once Rhodes exited the scene, Uso ran into an old ally in Sami Zayn.
The latter admitted that things haven’t been great for him lately upon being asked by Jey over his recent crash-outs. ‘The Last Real Good Guy’ backed Jey Uso to win the King of the Ring tournament but mentioned he wouldn’t be able to face Rhodes for the title.

It’s because Zayn said he’ll be the WWE champ by then and it’ll be Uso vs. Zayn instead. It made Sami Zayn wonder how Jey Uso will take to it when that eventually happens.
‘The Yeet Man’ affirmed he’ll do what he’s supposed to do. Meanwhile, Zayn could become the world champion next weekend in Saudi Arabia. He’s inserted into the WWE title picture after what happened in the opening half of this week’s SmackDown.
The former ‘Honorary Uce’ was the special guest referee for Cody Rhodes defending his Undisputed WWE title against Gunther in their rematch from Clash in Italy. Zayn had heated moments with both Rhodes and Gunther during the match, but the man who handpicked him for the job put his hands on the special guest ref, and it came to bite him later.
Even though Zayn prevented ‘The Ring General’ from the repeat of his Italy screwjob, the former El Generico ultimately robbed the Austrian via fast count. Later in the show on SmackDown, Rhodes approached the SmackDown GM Nick Aldis and demanded to be given Zayn and Gunther in a triple-threat match for the WWE title at Night of Champions.
Liv Morgan beat Charlotte Flair on SmackDown to make the Queen of the Ring finals
The main event of SmackDown was the Queen of the Ring semifinals match pitting the women’s world champ Liv Morgan against Charlotte Flair. Prior to it, ‘The Queen’ said in a backstage interview that she hasn’t held a world title in quite a few years and winning the QOTR crown will make her entitled to shoot for becoming a 15-time women’s champion at SummerSlam.

As she was about to make her way out, Flair got ambushed by the trio of Jade Cargill, B-Fab, and Michin. Despite getting laid out, the veteran wrestler refused to stay down, and she insisted on competing. The daughter of Ric Flair was hobbling and even fell down after making it to the ringside somehow. She asked the medics to stay away from her and told Nick Aldis she had no other choice.

Once the match got underway, Morgan knew she had to work on Flair’s already injured left knee. The Judgment Day member was up to the task from the get-go. Flair was hanging on to it by a thread and was again asked by her best friend Alexa Bliss, alongside Aldis and a WWE medic, to give a walkover to Morgan.

The 14-time women’s champion didn’t buy it and got hit by an Oblivion by Morgan back in the ring. Even though Flair shockingly kicked out of it, Morgan applied the half crab submission maneuver on Charlotte’s injured leg to make her tap out. That being said, Liv Morgan will now face Iyo Sky for the crown at Night of Champions.
