Shannon Sharpe has seen the world change over the five-plus decades he has been on this earth. Now, as he is in his mid-50s, the Hall of Famer has been shaken up, just like others in this country, after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
After President Donald Trump confirmed his death, the entire country was split in two. Most of them, including a lot of NFL players, were stunned that the country had come to this juncture where a person, Kirk, was being silenced for his views.
Along with them, some players were appalled that many were celebrating the conservative activist’s assassination. In the midst of this situation, there were accusations from the government that Kirk’s death was a result of the left’s constant push to fuel hate.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel brought up that point on what ended up being his last show. He pointed out that right-wingers are using Charlie Kirk’s death as a vehicle to push their agenda against the left.
Soon, his show was pulled off, with both Nexstar Media Group, who own many ABC-affiliated stations, and ABC claiming that Kimmel’s late-night show was suspended indefinitely for comments that could push the wrong buttons.
This caught many off guard, even ex-NFL stars Chad Johnson and Shannon Sharpe. The former did not want to bring up politics in their sports-focused podcast, but the situation forced them to talk about it.
We are in some times right now. You’ve got to be on your best behavior these next three years.

The Hall of Famer pointed out that there were times when there were people making fun of former President Joe Biden, and others, but they never faced any retribution. Now, situations are changing.
Shannon Sharpe claims people won’t know how these decisions impact them
Shannon Sharpe then went on to say that the country is starting to walk on a slippery slope. Now, they have to watch what they say or do. He then went on to say how this was going to impact the country, using him and Johnson as examples:
You sow distrust with your institutions. That’s the 1st and foremost thing. The only truth is that I’m giving it to you. And then, I start carving away at certain freedoms you enjoy.
Shannon Sharpe said
The 3-time Super Bowl champion laid out how Jimmy Kimmel’s situation is part of the first acts of those in power to tilt conversations towards what they want people to know.
Now that Kimmel and Stephen Colbert have lost their shows, Sharpe alleges that the government is finding ways to censor its loudest critics. That way, they start to control the narratives.
Chad Johnson is not sure Gen Z knows what they are fighting for
While discussing this sensitive topic, both Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson did not directly point fingers at anyone or use any example to insinuate that someone or a group was directly responsible.

Then, after discussing how the situation in the country is changing, they talked about how the current generation does not know what they are about to lose.
You want to fight the fight, but you don’t know what to swing at.
Chad Johnson said
This was how the former Bengals wide receiver finished the segment after Sharpe talked about how the current generation takes a lot of things for granted and does not know what to fight for.
They gave the example of voting rights and how the current generation does not know what it was like not to have those rights. They believe the time could come when citizens have to rethink what they want in life.
