Joe Rogan will never forget his experience at the commentators’ table when he covered the main event at UFC 229. That night, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor competed in a legendary bout. Everything, including the build-up, fight, and post-fight, featured controversial moments. Rogan recently revealed an aspect of that fight on JRE.
Years after the fight, Joe Rogan still talks about the fight frequently on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Recently, Rogan sat down with Matt Serra and Din Thomas and discussed the iconic battle. Rogan stated that Conor McGregor was helpless and frustrated while he defended himself against Nurmagomedov.
He was probably a little rattled. I mean it wasn't going his way. He did win a round but it seems like a round that Khabib took off. Khabib just knew how to wear you out man.Joe Rogan via JRE
The rivalry between McGregor and Nurmagomedov is regarded as one of the ugliest and most personal in UFC history. Going into the fight, the ‘The Eagle’ was determined to destroy McGregor inside the octagon, and that’s exactly what he did. Rogan covered the fight as fans went wild inside the T-Mobile arena. The Dagestani fighter dominated the first two rounds with relative ease.
However, the Irishman forged a comeback in the third round. Khabib chose to stand and strike with McGregor in the third round, which led the Irishman to win. However, Khabib continued to wrestle and submit McGregor in the fourth round. Moreover, the trash talk Khabib uttered inside the octagon frustrated the Irishman.
Conor McGregor goes off at Joe Rogan for his UFC 229 commentary
Joe Rogan had the privilege to experience everything up close that went down at UFC 229 between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. During the fight, Rogan did his job and called out how McGregor used an illegal knee at the Dagestani fighter.
However, it seems like while revisiting the fight, McGregor didn’t appreciate Rogan’s comments at all. The fighter took to X and shared his frustration with Rogan.
That was an illegal knee on the head of a grounded opponent, Shut up, Joe. You little fool, you. What are you talking about? Smash this and smash that? What was smashed was my knee into his f***** eye socket, yeah? Sh*t. ‘That’s a knee to a grounded opponent.' Call the cops. F**** tick, you.Conor McGregor via X
In response to McGregor’s remarks, Rogan chose to remain silent. Although some fight fans believed the two were still at odds, this may not be true. In recent times, the duo have had a complicated relationship. At times, Rogan supports McGregor, but he also blasted the Irishman for making a claim about acting and fighting. Whenever McGregor returns, he will likely reunite with Rogan, and the MMA world will see how their relationship is.
