Max Verstappen‘s aggressive driving style at the Mexican GP sparked controversy and became a hot topic of discussion. The Dutchman is locked in a title fight with Lando Norris but has been struggling with pace on the track, often falling behind.

In Mexico, he tackled Norris aggressively, forcing him to brake hard. As a result, Verstappen received penalties (20 seconds) for his actions. However, former F1 driver Johnny Herbert believes Max Verstappen is unlikely to alter his racing approach.

Herbert stated that the recent penalties at the Mexico GP won’t affect Verstappen’s aggressive tactics against title rival Norris. The footage of their duel clearly showed that the Dutchman didn’t want Norris to pass him and was even ready to cause a collision.

Those penalties in Mexico won’t stop Max Verstappen from pushing Lando Norris off the track in the future. The whole intention of Verstappen was to try to let Ferrari get the 1-2 finish. I think that’s definitely what Verstappen intended and tried to achieve, I understand why he did it but I don’t agree with it, I don’t think many people do.

Johnny Herbert said, as reported by Action Network

By aggressively pushing Norris and allowing Leclerc to pass, Verstappen effectively helped secure Ferrari’s 1-2 finish in Austin, which earned them more points than Norris. The five-second penalty dropped the Brit and he finished P4.

However Johnny Herbert believes the Dutchman doesn’t consider such things as he only wants to win, then may it be unfair. The former F1 driver opined that the Red Bull driver’s top goal now is to prevent Norris from finishing above him.

I don’t see Verstappen’s driving changing because the number one goal is to stop Norris from closing the gap for the drivers’ championship.

Johnny Herbert expressed

The gap between them stands at 47 points, setting the stage for an exciting rivalry as we head into the final four races and two sprints. In the upcoming Brazilian GP, Norris can seize a chance to score valuable points and close that gap as Verstappen is set to get a grid penalty for taking a new engine.

However, the new engine will give Verstappen more horsepower to challenge the 24-year-old in his quest for victory. This could give fans another episode of intense racing between the rivals.
