Tom Aspinall believes Jon Jones is purposely avoiding him. He recently told Ariel Helwani that Jones would not face him publically or address a potential matchup because he does not want to be held accountable for it.
Tom Aspinall recently sat down with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. Helwani asked him about a potential fight against Jon Jones and Aspinall had something very interesting to say about the heavyweight champion.
He doesn’t want to do a faceoff because that promotes a potential fight. When I ask him, ‘Jon are we going to do this?’ He doesn’t say, ‘Absolutely. Let me get Stipe out of the way and we’ll do it.’ He’ll instead say, ‘Oh, maybe one day.’ Because he doesn’t want that quote of, ‘We’re going to fight one day.’ It’s super smart.

He told Helwani that Jones would never make a statement publicly saying that he would fight Tom Aspinall. This is because he does not want any evidence of him agreeing to any kind of fight. Because if he did he would be called out for it if he ever backed out of the fight.
However, Aspinall revealed that he no longer bothers himself with a potential fight with the heavyweight champion. He said that he is not desperate for a fight and it is not a career-defining one for him. Aspinall is happy to sit back and let Jones decide if he wants to face him or not.
Ciryl Gane responds to Tom Aspinall’s accusations of avoiding fights
Tom Aspinall recently made some interesting comments on heavyweight fighter Ciryl Gane. Gane had allegedly avoided a potential fight with Aspinall on multiple occasions and Aspinall was not the only fighter Gane said no to. Tom Aspinall said that the reason he had to fight Sergei Pavlovich was because Gane had ducked Pavlovich.

However, Gane was ready to defend himself and he did so on social media. Gane tagged Tom Aspinall on X and wrote that he never says no to any challenge or any opponent. He even extended an offer saying that he would take on Aspinall in September, tagging UFC officials underneath it.
It is an interesting situation going on in the heavyweight division. While Aspinall has been waiting to take on Jon Jones for a while now, the heavyweight champion is waiting to make a comeback from his injury which canceled his title defense against Stipe Miocic. It will be interesting to see what happens in the UFC’s heavyweight roster these coming months.
