Jordan Walker stunned the Philadelphia crowd on Monday following a historic performance in the Home Run Derby. He hit 6 consecutive homers to beat home crowd favorite Kyle Schwarber. Barry Bonds later hailed him for this performance.
After beating Junior Caminero in the second round, Walker found himself facing Schwarber in the final round. The 2026 MLB home run leader went first in the final round and smashed 11 home runs.
At that point it seemed he had the trophy in his bag. With the crowd firmly behind him, Schwarber was hoping to become just the 4th player to win the Home Run Derby in their home team’s stadium.
Walker struggled at the start and was at 8 home runs, 3 behind his opponent with one swing remaining. As per the new rules, batters, who end on a homer, would have unlimited swings until the ball does not go over the fence.
The St. Louis Cardinals star took full advantage of it. After he hit his 10th home run, the boos started to get louder as Schwarber and his teammates looked on from the sidelines.
The 24-year-old tied the proceedings at 11 with a 450 foot bomb before winning it all 12-11 with another long shot in right center field.

Barry Bonds, the MLB’s all-time home run leader and 1996 Derby champion was shocked like many. In an interview with Walker after the round, the 7-time MVP hailed the Cardinals star for his performance and claimed this was the greatest derby he had seen.
I thought that was the greatest home run derby I’ve ever seen. … What got me was this, Jordan, you were so calm, and you used your hands well. You never cared how far the ball went. You actually used your hands well as a contact hitter and just hit the ball. You were just fluent, and just fluent. And it was probably the most amazing.

Jordan Walker was unfazed by boos from Philadelphia crowd
Jordan Walker had to overcome a tough crowd to win the Home Run Derby. As he kept getting closer, the boos from the Philadelphia crowd started getting louder. The right fielder however, was unfazed by the hostile reception.

It was not the fault of the fans either. In MLB history, only 3 times had a player previously won the Home Run Derby in front of their fans. The last player to do so was one of current Phillies star Bryce Harper, who won it in front of the Washington Nationals fans in 2018.
This year, the Phillies fans had him and Schwarber in the event. While many anticipated to see a battle between the two teammates, Harper suffered an early elimination.
Schwarber, on the other hand, has been a top hitter once again this season. His 32 runs are the most by any player so far this season. So the fans wanted to see him win. That meant, that whoever came up against him, would have to beat the crowd as well.
Walker did that. The Cardinals star kept his composure and took his time in between swings and delivered a strong performance to win the Home Run Derby.

I was once told you don’t boo nobody. So it feels pretty good.
Jordan Walker said
"What's it like to have 40,000 people boo you?" 😅
