The New York Mets are having another down season. With the trade deadline next week, NBA superstars Josh Hart and Donovan Mitchell were involved in an online spat after the former trolled the latter in a post.
Earlier this month, reports emerged that the Mets were going to be sellers at the deadline this season. According to Chelsea Janes, the team was open to trading everyone except Juan Soto, Nolan McLean, Carson Benge, AJ Ewing, and Christian Scott.
This raised several speculations regarding the future of Francisco Lindor. The shortstop has struggled this season, with injuries leading to him missing several games.
Last Friday, General Manager David Stearns declined to rule out a potential trade regarding him. As the trade deadline approaches, the speculation continues to mount.
On Monday, Josh Hart decided to poke some fun. The New York Knicks star took to his X account, tagged Donovan Mitchell, and expressed that it was looking dark at the bottom.
Yo @spidadmitchell trade deadline coming up. Yall might want to make a move…it’s looking dark at the bottom.

Some NBA fans joked that this comment could also refer to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team Mitchell plays for. However, Hart only had the Mets on target.
For the unversed, Mitchell is a huge fan of the Mets. His father, Donovan Mitchell Sr., works as a front office executive for the Mets. Meanwhile, Hart is reportedly a New York Yankees fan and has spoken highly of the Bronx Bombers.
Following Hart’s post, Mitchell tried to wave him off and claimed that he was not hearing something from someone who is a Yankee fan.
You from the DMV and a Yankee fan… I’m not hearing it smh @joshhart

Hart, though, was not done there. He took another shot at the Mets and brought up the National East standings. The NBA champion sarcastically pointed out that the Queens-based side was surely doing better than the Washington Nationals.
You right…..Let’s see how the Nats are doing. Surely the Mets are better than them

The two New York teams are currently heading in two different directions. While the Yankees remain in the race for the AL East division, the Mets are at the bottom of their table. Before the game on Monday, they were 44-62, 18 games under .500.
The Mets did win big on Monday against the Braves
The New York Mets have not had too much to celebrate this season. After Josh Hart and Donovan Mitchell got involved in some back-and-forth on X, the NL East side celebrated a huge win on Monday against the Atlanta Braves.

The Mets came into this game on the back of an 8-3 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This win kept them from being swept by the reigning champions in a 3-game series.
In the matchup against their division leaders, the Mets put up 14 runs on the board through 19 hits. Francisco Lindor smashed 2 home runs and had 6 RBIs in this game.
Marcus Semien hit a solo home run in the 6th inning while Tyrone Taylor clubbed a 2-run home run in the 7th inning. The late explosion of the offense saw the Mets win 14-3.

This makes it back-to-back wins for the Mets. It comes at a time when they are once again without superstar Juan Soto.
The Dominican international was removed from the game on Friday against the Dodgers due to left calf soreness. He was later placed on the 10-day injured list.
The team will now hope to make it 3 wins on the spin on Tuesday. The last time they won 3 successive games this year was in late May when they won 4 on the bounce after losing 5 games in a row.
