After much speculation, the Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to hand the keys to their offense to Russell Wilson. That demotes Justin Fields to the bench despite leading the team to a 4-2 record.
His reaction to the benching was mature, as he acknowledged he did not play well enough to continue as their starter. A response that has caught the eye of NFL legend JJ Watt.
The former Houston Texans superstar watched as Justin Fields gave a brutal assessment of his play in the first six games. Watt reposted the interview on X and wrote some words of praise for the young QB.
JJ Watt admired the way the 25-year-old QB showed maturity and class by acknowledging his mistakes, leaving him as a fan of the former Chicago Bears star.
Man, what an answer from a guy who is 4-2 and gave them a legitimate chance to be 5-1 right now.

When Justin Fields was traded a day after the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Russell Wilson, it caught the NFL world off guard. Not only did they sign an immediate solution to their quarterbacking problems in Wilson, but also brought in a player who can lead them down the line. Watt in particular proclaimed that the Steelers made a brilliant move to secure their most important position.
Then when Russell Wilson struggled with injuries, Fields got an opportunity to start the first six games. Before he started, the young QB knew that with the perennial Pro Bowler on the roster, he would have to fight to win his job back. Now that becomes a reality as he will sit on the bench.
Steelers Super Bowl-winning legend would have preferred to continue with Justin Fields
TMZ Sports approached Pittsburgh Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw earlier.
Bradshaw reiterated his stance when asked if he had a preference between the two Steelers QBs. The legend preferred the younger QB based on what he has seen so far.
Russell Wilson is seemingly poised to step in as #Steelers starting quarterback this week vs. the #Jets, despite Pittsburgh's 4-2 start w/ Justin Fields.

We asked Terry Bradshaw who should be the QB1. The 4x Super Bowl champ left no doubt — "[Field's] played well enough to keep… pic.twitter.com/WMZi1ciUqA
The four-time Super Bowl winner is another one of former players who have advocated for Fields to continue as a starter. The winner of the other two Steelers Super Bowls, Ben Roethlisberger had a similar opinion.
With Mike Tomlin going ahead with Russell Wilson, it will be interesting to see how it pans out. They want what is best for the team. The next few games against solid defenses will give a better idea if their decision was right.
