Former World No.1 Justin Rose recently made some bold comments regarding Team USA. The Englishman claimed that their opponents were trying too hard to become a team before their showdown at the 2025 Ryder Cup.

The biennial competition between USA and Europe will take place at the Bethpage Course in New York this year. Having lost the previous event in Rome, the pressure is on USA to deliver this time out.

With just days remaining for this event, the mind games have already begun. Rose, the 2013 U.S. Open winner, threw a shade at Team USA and questioned their strategy.

Being a great team is having a kind of a real good theme and having an identity that has come from players before you, and you all buy into that vision. I think America have tried too hard to become a team, whereas Europe is a bit more natural and organic, and I think it comes from deeper roots in a way.

Justin Rose said on Sky Sports Golf podcast

There were several questions thrown at Team USA during the 2023 event in Italy. Then, captain Zach Johnson’s pairing and picks were criticized following a massive 16.5-11.5 defeat. The former Masters Champion was later removed as the captain.

Under the captaincy of Keegan Bradley, Team USA will hand debuts to 4 players. Looking back at the 2023 team, only 6 players return to Bethpage.

As for Team Europe, nothing much has changed. 11 of the 12 who were part of the winning team in 2023 return. The only change sees Rasmus Hojgaard replacing his twin brother Nicolai Hojgaard. So on paper, Team Europe will have the same 12 names that represented them in the previous edition.

The New York crowd in Bethpage is expected to go rowdy. In order to tackle this hostile reception, Rory McIlroy revealed that his teammates are being encouraged by captain Luke Donald to try something new.

The 5-time major champion revealed that Donald has given them Virtual Reality (VR) headsets to simulate the crowd noise at Bethpage. This is done to prepare them for the heckling they will receive from the US fans in New York.

McIlroy spoke about the heckling of the crowd recently. In the press conference of the Amgen Irish Open, the Northern Irish dropped the name of Tennis great Novak Djokovic and urged his teammate to follow his approach on how to tackle the pro-American crowd. The Serbian international recently silenced the US fans during the U.S. Open Quarter Finals by beating American star Taylor Fritz.

Justin Rose had a disappointing finish at the BMW PGA Championship

Before arriving to New York for the preparations for the Ryder Cup, several European golfers were in England taking part in the BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Course. Justin Rose was one of them. The 45-year-old had a disappointing finish in this event.

The golfer started off strong and fired scores of 67 and 66 in the opening two rounds to make the cut and be in contention for the title. However, a score of 76 in the third round with 5 bogeys and 1 double bogey saw his train go off the tracks.

He had a mixed start to the front nine in the final round with 3 bogeys, 1 double bogey, and 3 birdies. With 3 birdies and 2 bogeys on the back nine, he finished with a score of 1-over 73 for the final round and finished the tournament with a T61 finish.

Last month, he did win on the PGA Tour. He took down Ryder Cup rival J.J. Spaun in the playoff round to win the St. Jude FedEx Championship. This broke a run of 4 losses in the playoff round on the PGA Tour for Rose.
